Be careful when selecting ingredients; learning how to choose makes you feel more at ease

Do you know where high-mountain cabbage and lowland cabbage come from? The difference lies in how much dew there is, which affects the cabbage's crispness, plumpness and sweetness, so everyone likes to buy high-mountain vegetables, including me.

When you eat cabbage or any vegetable in hot pot, do you consider where it comes from? Why do people who eat vegetarian food still get cancer? Why are the parents short but the children very tall?

I spent some time up in the high mountains and saw and heard that high-mountain vegetable growers spray huge amounts of pesticide, and some of it is even banned pesticide, and the people spraying it even wear advanced gas masks, all so the vegetables will be big and beautiful and naturally fetch a good price. These vegetables are sold to the metropolitan areas and become the cabbage in your pan-fried buns, shabu-shabu and so on. Pesticide-sprayed and non-sprayed vegetables both taste sweet, but their nutritional value is different: one contains highly toxic residue and the other does not. In the past I did not dare eat vegetables that insects had eaten; now I only dare eat vegetables that insects have eaten.

In the mountains I also saw chicken farmers buy grown chickens, keep them for a month, and then they can be sold; this is what we call "free-range mountain chicken." Also, antibiotics in chickens cannot be 100 percent excreted just by running around, just as when you get a vaccine it stays in your body for life forming antibodies to protect you.

There are too many opportunistic farmers, but they cannot be blamed, because consumers have a mindset of wanting things cheap and in big portions. The fried chicken cutlets and chicken nuggets people eat actually contain large amounts of antibiotics and hormones. Some of these chickens are raised for no more than forty days and already weigh three or four jin. Of course the meat is tender and juicy, but it all needs heavy-flavored seasonings to suppress the gamey smell. This is how many elementary-school girls end up with symptoms such as early menstruation. So I suggest everyone carefully choose non-toxic foods, so you will not sacrifice your health and end up with more loss than gain!
