"A Thank-You Dish That Will Wow Mom"

Gourmet Mary Soh personally teaches Mediterranean cooking to encourage people to cook a meal for Mom on Mother's Day

On Mother's Day, besides the usual holiday marketing that has people taking Mom out to eat and giving gifts, what deeper and warmer sentiment can we express this year? It is often said that Mom's cooking touches the heart the most, because from preparing the ingredients to cooking with full care, the food always comes out full of thoughtful flavor. So if mothers could taste a dish cooked with the genuine, heartfelt effort of their children, Mother's Day would become an even deeper and more tender memory among family members.

The Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market and the Homemakers United Foundation, both starting from heartfelt intention, will jointly respond in May to a series of Food Revolution events launched by Jamie Oliver - host of the British cooking show "The Naked Chef" and the handsome celebrity chef - together with his foundation (Jamie Oliver Foundation).

For the first event on Mother's Day, they have specially invited the culinary master known as the "Queen of Banquets" and a regular at the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market, Mary Soh, to come to the market on May 11 (Saturday), the day before Mother's Day, from 2:00-3:00 pm to personally teach classic Mediterranean dishes that anyone can easily master, including the most classic Ratatouille from the movie "Ratatouille," Salade Nicoise, and Provencal pesto soup, so that friends who come to the market can go home and easily prepare a meal that wows Mom! This Mother's Day, the organic crops that farmers have cultivated with care will become the most deeply heartfelt gift to give back to mothers.

Professor Kuo Hua-jen, supervising professor of the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market, said: The Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market is the first market where organic farmers stand on their own feet, and is a market that has gradually grown with the support of people in the Taipei area who want healthy, delicious, environmentally friendly agricultural products that embody fairness and justice; it can be called a gathering of the broad CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) movement.

Joining with the Homemakers United Foundation, which cares about food safety and food and agriculture education, to respond to the global "Food Revolution Day" launched by British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is an action of dietary awakening of great significance. Through this, on Mother's Day we offer the highest respect to mothers everywhere through the act of organic gratitude.

In addition, as long as people come to the market and state that they are shopping for ingredients to cook for their mother and spend more than 500 yuan, the farmers will directly give back a variety of eco-friendly cleaning products. If you are a mother and come to the market, as long as you participate in the member points program and spend more than 500 yuan, the farmers will likewise give back a variety of eco-friendly cleaning products, while supplies last. The Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market is held every Saturday from 1:00-6:00 pm at the Water Mist Garden Plaza in the Gongguan Water Park.

About the Homemakers United Foundation

In early 1987, a group of homemakers, feeling the rapid changes in society, found that as members of society they could not sit idly by while surrounded by all kinds of environmental ills and educational deficiencies. So they took as their motto "dare to speak up, quick to act, glad to take responsibility," resolved to start with themselves, and committed to improving the environment and raising the quality of life; thus the "Homemakers United Foundation" was born.

In 2013, the Homemakers United Foundation, with old roots and new branches in full bloom, proposed "Green Food Education," continuing to care about and advocate on topics such as food safety, consumer awareness, and parent-child education, including opposing high-risk imported American beef, calling for rational fertilization to reduce nitrate content in vegetables, promoting and explaining "anti-GMO crops," and food education starting from the home and the classroom. It hopes to advance an integrated educational concept covering five major dimensions: food, agriculture, ecology, nutrition, and culture.

About the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market

This is the story of a group of farmers who are changing Taiwan, China through nature-friendly farming that is kind to the earth. And the closing of the NTU Organic Farmers' Market is the beginning of this story. When the only organic farmers' market in Taipei closed, it meant that a community linking land, ecology, farmers, and the dining table would ferment a deeper force; the farmers stood up on their own strength and, in the Water Garden in the Gongguan business district near NTU, rebuilt a fresh and distinctive new organic cultural market.

About the Water Garden Lifestyle Creative Market

Life! How can it be simple and natural yet full of beautiful surprises? "Organic" should not be limited to agricultural method certification, but should be a comprehensive aesthetic attitude toward life! Exploring organic life brings us back to the four great principles of "health, ecology, fairness, and care"! Besides using processed foods made as far as possible from organic or natural farming ingredients, we hope that through every aspect of food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and recreation, as long as there is the will, a more ideal way of life can be realized. And in the practice of the market, relationships between people have already risen from transactions to friendships! Trust, care, support, and sharing are the world of great harmony we yearn for! Following the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market, the Taipei Cultural Exploration Association further established at the Taipei Water Park a "Water Garden Lifestyle Creative Market" that realizes the four great principles of organic life.
