How I Tasted Every Kind of Bread in the Bakery

More than a year ago, I was still in an abandoned slaughterhouse in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. One or two days a week, we would go to the main factory of a bakery called Panpek to buy day-old bread. A 20-kilogram bag of day-old bread was enough to feed the ten of us for at least three or four days.

Inside there was a pile of multigrain bread, plus pizza, doughnuts, cinnamon rolls, cheese straws, a Balkan specialty, and even muffins. Simply put, I ate everything a bakery would sell. And yet, behind me, an older man who had come in a car loaded up five bags in one go.....

Wow, judging by that, his family must have at least fifty or sixty people. But it turned out that the man raised pigs, and those breads were what he was buying to feed his pigs... So it turns out I had been eating pig feed for nearly half a year!

Still, whether abroad or back in Taiwan, China, nothing ever suggested that eating that "food for pigs" caused me any discomfort. It even gave me the chance to fulfill a fantasy that most travelers from Taiwan, China can only think and talk about when they go to Europe.... tasting every kind of bread in the bakery XD
