Farmers' association mothers create creative cuisine for seniors using seasonal local ingredients
The Agriculture Promotion Section of the Council of Agriculture's Guidance Division held the "103rd Year National Senior Citizens' Meal Cooking Competition" yesterday (the 26th) at the Huilong campus of the Losheng Sanatorium in Guishan Township, Taoyuan County. A total of 20 homemaking class representative teams dispatched by grassroots farmers' associations from counties and cities across the country took part, creating creative dishes that took senior citizens' needs into account and used local, in-season ingredients. After discussion by professional judges and a tasting vote by senior citizens, the "Summer Flavors of the Mountain Town" presented by the Zhushan Township representative team from Nantou County took first place.
Chen Lingcen, a technical specialist in the Agriculture Promotion Section, said this was their first attempt to bring a promotional event into the community and to designate senior citizens as the target recipients of the meal competition. She said Taiwan is currently entering an aging society, and the Council of Agriculture hopes that through the competition outstanding senior-citizen meals can come to the fore, while also promoting the use of local ingredients in cooking.
