In 2015, a skilled grower cultivated the Mino melon, using time to brew the most beautiful flavor
In the height of midsummer, July, in the summer of 2015, watching the weather station report temperatures breaking new records day after day, the air carried a muggy heat, and the blazing sun of Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan seemed about to melt every farmer toiling away. Just standing in the field, sweat poured like a faucet that could not be shut off, soaking through one's entire clothing again and again, but for the sake of each plump fruit, from planting to harvest they wield their sweat, tend the plants earnestly, wait in step with nature's rhythm, and wait a little longer -- they will meet everyone in mid-July.
The Reticulatus melon (Oriental melon) "Jiayu" shows a faint light green surface, its smooth touch as fine as a baby's skin; even before it is cut open you can smell a rich fruity fragrance, and once cut, it is full of juice, and one bite leaves an endless aftertaste. The skin is white with a hint of yellow, carrying a faint, sweet, delicate and lingering melon aroma; after washing it can be eaten with the skin on, crisp outside and tender inside, with a distinctive flavor all its own. The Reticulatus melon fruit is rich in carbohydrates, protein, fat, organic acids, phosphorus, sodium and more; besides being eaten fresh, it can also be processed by salting and drying into pickles, made into a cold dressed crisp melon, or cooked in soups -- all are very delicious ingredients.
For every drink and every sip, infinite gratitude. It is the crops, the land, and the hardworking farmers.
