GMO Ingredients: The First Major US Chain Restaurant to Never Use Them

A U.S. chain of Mexican fast-food restaurants called Chipotle announced that starting April 27, 2015, all product ingredients would exclude GMO sources, including meat, corn products, oils, and all kinds of seasonings, all using non-GMO ingredients. Founder and head chef Steve Ells said that Chipotle introduced this innovative measure in the hope of changing the general public's view of fast food and overturning the impression that "fast food" can only be equated with cheap ingredients, processed foods, additives, and a flood of colors and flavors.
In the United States, there are many large chains selling Mexican cuisine, such as Taco Bell and other fast-food restaurants that can be seen everywhere. Chipotle, with more than 1,300 chain restaurants across the United States, is distinguished by the fact that tortillas, fillings, meats, and sauces can all be customized when ordering, and after its launch it became quite popular among young Americans. Since opening its first store in 1993 next to the University of Denver in Colorado's capital, founder Steve Ells has gradually put the belief in "Food with Integrity" into practice in restaurant operations, such as emphasizing the use of local, safe, and fresh ingredients as much as possible, whole-food utilization, humane livestock farming, meat sources free of antibiotics and growth hormones, and environmentally friendly agriculture.
