On October 26, the Ministry of Health and Welfare published the latest list of downstream products made with Ting Hsin beef tallow
As of this morning, the Food and Drug Administration announced the latest results of voluntary reports from businesses using Ting Hsin Vietnamese butter. At present, newly added items include the well-known Taichung Rose Pie, whose crusts for 20 flavors of Rose Pie are all made with Ting Hsin butter. In addition, among bakery businesses, pineapple and peanut series products were the most affected, including 8 flavors of bread such as large toast, whole wheat toast, and Mexican bread from Taichung Yuesheng Food Co., Ltd.; as well as coconut and peanut bread from Taichung Chenqi Food Co., Ltd.
In addition, breads such as pineapple, whole wheat peanut bread, and pineapple strawberry sandwich from Dagu Food Store are also on the list; finally, Italian waffles from Hongda Food Co., Ltd., concentrated beef bone soup powder from Ivory Enterprise Co., Ltd., and corn chowder from Guanqi Steak House all contain Ting Hsin butter ingredients.
Since the FDA announced voluntary reporting by businesses on the 22nd, the downstream products reported by county and city health bureaus have increased to 102 items, and about 16,000 kg of oils and fats have been preventively removed from shelves. Newly added products include concentrated beef bone soup powder from Ivory Enterprise Co., Ltd., which mainly produces food seasonings and contains butter ingredients. In addition, the well-known Taichung Rose Pie is also on the list, including 20 flavors such as red bean milk pie, lemon pie, chocolate pie, and taro pie, all made with crusts using Ting Hsin Vietnamese butter.
Among the remaining bakery businesses, pineapple and peanut series products were the most affected. These include 8 flavors of bread such as large toast, whole wheat toast, Mexican bread, and pineapple milk bun from Taichung Yuesheng Food Co., Ltd.; as well as coconut and peanut bread from Taichung Chenqi Food Co., Ltd. In addition, Hongda Food Co., Ltd., which specializes in cakes and dorayaki products, used Ting Hsin butter on waffle molds to make chocolate and strawberry flavored Italian waffles. Finally, the corn chowder from Guanqi Steak House also contains Ting Hsin Vietnamese butter ingredients.
In addition, yesterday's announcement regarding Golden Century shortening from Tongqing Co., Ltd., affected 19 products of Uni-President Enterprises, mainly beef sauce packets for instant noodles. Uni-President Enterprises ordered a batch of refined butter totaling 5.57 metric tons from Tongqing Co., Ltd. on June 10 of this year, but at that time, because Tongqing's production line had problems and could not supply it, Taiwan Mitsubishi Corporation was asked to order butter, and Taiwan Mitsubishi asked Ting Hsin Industrial Co. to transport it to Tongqing by tanker truck.
After verification by the FDA and the health bureaus of Tainan City, Taipei City, Changhua County, and Pingtung County, the source of this batch of butter was indeed Vietnam's Dai Hanh Phuc Company. Therefore, Jiang Yumei stated that any use of this batch of Golden Century shortening from Tongqing Co., Ltd. with a production date of June 6, 2014, and item number 16JSBO(P) (paper packaging), must be fully and voluntarily removed from shelves, but as long as this batch of shortening is not used, it still complies with regulations. Jiang Yumei said that although this batch of butter was purchased by a third party, the company itself must also review its internal practices and do a good job of traceability management.
Since mid-October, when the FDA asked Vietnamese officials whether Ting Hsin butter was food grade, no reply had been received as of the 22nd. Therefore, starting on the 22nd, the FDA notified county and city health bureaus that for all 8 major categories of products made using Ting Hsin Vietnamese butter, downstream manufacturers must voluntarily report and preventively remove products from shelves. Jiang Yumei, acting director-general of the FDA, said that this was now the fifth text message sent, and still no reply had been received. In addition, regarding products made with problematic lard, the investigation has now been completed.
