Peilin is not honest; signs of a US FDA warning emerge

General News By Emily Carter 0 views

In an earlier article, "Why Lean Meat Powder Makes People Uneasy?", NewsMarket reported that through political lobbying, ractopamine was approved by the US FDA for widespread use in American livestock farming, after which US trade officials, with their eyes on the livestock markets of other countries, began opening up overseas business opportunities for products such as Paylean and OPTAFLEXX, as well as for American beef and pork produced with lean meat powder. The first step was to demand that Codex establish a globally applicable safe residue standard for ractopamine, because doing so would help the US government use the WTO trade dispute mechanism to break down other countries' bans on ractopamine.

This process can be likened to a modern-day version of the "Black Ships Incident". The "Black Ships Incident" originally referred to the mid-nineteenth century, when the United States, in order to open Japan's doors to trade, and backed by powerful warships, dispatched a naval fleet painted black to force its way into Edo, demanding that the Japanese side sign an unequal treaty and open up foreign trade.Today, although the twenty-first-century version of the "Black Ships Incident" no longer relies on powerful warships, it uses the manipulation of international trade law as its means to demand that other countries throw open their markets. Yet what force is driving the US government? The answer is the interests of multinational pharmaceutical companies!

Animal Drugs, Seen as a Cash Cow for American Pharmaceutical Companies

Ractopamine, the lean meat powder that triggered the "US beef storm" in Taiwan, was originally a drug developed by the American pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly to treat human asthma. This multinational pharmaceutical company, headquartered in Indianapolis in the United States, is known for producing drugs to treat depression, diabetes and sexual dysfunction, among which the most memorable is the erectile dysfunction drug "Cialis". Because competition in the pharmaceutical industry is fierce and the market for drugs treating human diseases is becoming increasingly saturated, Eli Lilly began to set its sights on the development of animal drugs, and ractopamine is the most typical example.

According to a report in the Indianapolis Business Journal (IBJ for short), Elanco, the animal drug company under the American pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly, is regarded as the group's cash cow. Why is Eli Lilly so optimistic about the animal drug market? It is mainly focused on the growing middle-class population in emerging countries, which accelerates demand for meat protein, and, with greater economic affluence, more and more families are keeping pets, all of which lead Eli Lilly to place high hopes on Elanco.
