Roast Scallion Duck to Reward Friends on the Front Lines of Huaguang Community

Editor's note: Taipei's Huaguang Community is a long-established immigrant community and an important cultural asset. The land is state-owned land, administered by the Ministry of Justice. At the end of 2007, the Executive Yuan proposed the Four Major Golden Bricks plan, intending to develop Huaguang Community into a "Taipei Wall Street," and therefore began suing residents, demanding that "unauthorized structures" be demolished by the owners themselves to return the land, pay unjust enrichment and land-use compensation fees, and enforcing account freezes and the deduction of 1/3 of salaries in accordance with the law.

Huaguang Community has now been forcibly demolished, which is deeply regrettable. Following the scene at the Shilin Wang family site, the "Cooking at the Front Line" team once again prepared delicious food and brought it to Huaguang Community to show appreciation for the friends working on the front line. The article below is a partial excerpt of the original text; click here to read the full text.

A while back, Cooking at the Front Line visited Qiding, and on the way back we detoured into Wanbao, where Auntie Hong Xiang stuffed a large turkey and a duck into our hands. After some discussion, the members of Cooking at the Front Line decided to eat the turkey ourselves, as a treat for the companions who had been unemployed for nearly a year, to serve as motivation to keep going, while the other duck was sent to the hands of Cooking at the Front Line's culinary instructor, Big Belly.

Big Belly is a professionally trained chef who opened a small restaurant near the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Meeting Cooking at the Front Line was purely accidental: last year, Big Belly saw our article about cooking for protesters at the Shilin Wang family site and felt he could contribute something too. Although he was unfamiliar with the ways of protest and had never taken part, perhaps he could cook a meal for everyone from the rear, and from then on he stepped right into this big activist family, becoming Cooking at the Front Line's culinary consultant (in fact, was it because he couldn't stand watching us cook? Just kidding~)

In the future, Big Belly will also take part in the "Bow-Down Market" at the NCCU Public Corporate Center, using friendly ingredients on-site to demonstrate simple, delicious dishes~

Back to the main topic!

Killing two birds with one stone: to make this duck's death worthwhile, Cooking at the Front Line decided to use ingredients from farmers at the Bow-Down Market to cook this duck, and then send the duck to "Huaguang Community" to show appreciation for these friends working on the front line. (A duck that was on the front line both in life and in death!)
