Heartfield (Part 1): Searching for the Articles of the Past in the Adult World
Reading this article by Cai Chan-er was deeply moving. I never expected that the harvest event at Xiao Tiantian could move people so much and stir up so many feelings. With the original author's permission, I am sharing this article here. Because the text is somewhat long, it is divided into two parts, one above and one below. To read Part 2, please click here.

On July 21, 2012, the third day of the sixth lunar month, one more day and the solar term would reach Major Heat.
At 4:32 in the morning, the alarm clock rang. I struggled, still bleary-eyed, and suddenly remembered how Mom often said that when she was little and loved to sleep in, she could not get out of bed for the early morning farm work, so my grandmother would pinch her hard on the thigh. I woke up at once, as if my thigh had been pinched too.
Today I got up early to go to Xiao Tiantian in Yilan to harvest rice. Xiao Tiantian is located in Shengou Village, Yuanshan Township, Yilan, because there was an old farmer who could no longer farm but did not want the fields to go to waste, so through Mr. Lai Qingsong, who grows organic rice in Yilan, the land was rented to Brother Qingsong at the fallow-land price. Brother Qingsong then approached the Taiwan Rural Front, and together they tried cultivating two fen of field.
At Xiao Tiantian in Yilan, what was sown was something beautiful: the seeds that did not grow up in an orphanage have now grown.

On the train, dazed and drowsy.
After nearly two hours, I finally saw through sleepy eyes the misty Guishan Island on the sea.
