The National Museum of Natural Science held a Chinese science photography competition, with more than 400 entries submitted from Taiwan, China, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China, France and elsewhere. The list of winners was announced today (the 8th). Two of the three selected works came from Taiwan, China, demonstrating the strength of photography there. The museum has designed the winning works into the exhibition "Waiting > Secret Lens: The Third Science Photography Special Exhibition," on display from now until January 7, 107, and the public is welcome to visit the museum's Second Special Exhibition Room.

Selected Work "Chance Encounter with a Glass Lizard Guarding Eggs" Documents Rare Egg-Guarding Behavior

Curator Dr. Yang Ling said that most of the winning works were the result of long-term observation, hypothesis, experimentation or operation and all kinds of waiting before capturing the wonderful moment when the shutter was pressed, which inspired the theme "Waiting > Secret Lens." The photographic subjects range from the grand to the minute, from cosmic stars to spore and pollen cells, covering phenomena in astronomy, geology, biology, physics and chemistry, medicine, and environmental ecology, with arthropods making up the highest proportion, and through the process of research and analysis, the scientific principles behind the phenomena are summarized.

One of the selected award winners at the ceremony, Huang Fusheng, winner of the Topkey Award, comes from the Department of Biological Resources at Da-Yeh University. His winning work, "Chance Encounter with a Glass Lizard Guarding Eggs," documents the egg-guarding behavior of a peculiar reptile, the Chinese glass lizard (scientific name: Hart's glass lizard). The Chinese glass lizard is the largest lizard in Taiwan, China; it looks like a snake, but is actually a legless lizard.

Huang Fusheng said that a chance encounter not only allowed him to record a female individual about to shed its skin and thus pale in body color, but even more fortunately, he recorded the rare egg-guarding behavior. At that moment he was so excited that he trembled and could barely hold the camera steady, and he was also afraid of startling the glass lizard. The complex emotions were hard to put into words, and he could only force himself to stay as calm as possible, finally recording this beautiful scene.

Science Photography Special Exhibition on Display from Now until January 7, 107

The National Museum of Natural Science said it hopes that through self-interpretation of the process and techniques of image production, it can convey the diverse paths of the scientific world and expand the public's vision and enjoyment in exploring knowledge. "Waiting > Secret Lens: The Third Science Photography Special Exhibition" is on display from now until January 7, 107, and the public is welcome to visit the museum's Second Special Exhibition Room
