Second Southern Food and Farming Education Vision Forum Opens Tomorrow
Three years ago, a group of spontaneous civil society organizations in southern Taiwan concerned with the development of food and farming education in the south came together to form the Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance (abbreviated as Nan Shi Meng), hoping to prompt southern cities to respond to the circumstances of urban dwellers by implementing food and farming education, and to further establish related food and farming policies, linking food safety with green living, and integrating food, agriculture and land, gradually promoting and practicing the green living city through education.
In early September this year, the Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance initiated invitations to five Kaohsiung City mayoral participants to propose and study policies on [Green Living City Policy]. To date, policies from Legislators Chen Chi-mai, Chao Tien-lin and Kuan Bi-ling have been received and announced on the [Southern Country Tomorrow's Dining Table - Nan Shi Meng] fan page. Alliance convenor Principal Chang Chin-yu (Kaohsiung City First Community University) stated that Kaohsiung City is a base for petrochemicals and heavy industry, and in autumn and winter air pollution in southern Taiwan is severe; how to give citizens a happy city makes the green living city policy truly very important. She called on the five next-term Kaohsiung mayoral candidates to value the voices of civil society and to value the work of green living city governance.
The Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance stated that this forum originally accepted 150 people, but due to enthusiastic registration the number of registrants was raised to 200. Participating citizens even more look forward to hearing at the forum the policies of the next-term Kaohsiung mayoral candidates on food and farming education/culture, environmentally friendly practices, food safety and urban farming. Although the forum is already full, a two-camera "live stream" has been set up, and it will be streamed live through the fan page at that time. Citizens from other counties and cities, or those who were unable to register, are welcome to watch online and participate in asking questions.
The Second Southern Food and Farming Education Vision Forum will be held tomorrow (December 16) at the Kaohsiung International Convention Center. This forum invites case-sharing from Seoul, South Korea and Taipei, Taiwan on promoting urban farming to transform urban circumstances, invites the next-term Kaohsiung mayoral candidates to express their policy views and exchange with the public; on the other hand, as Taiwan gradually moves toward an aging society, the Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance looks forward to caring through this forum for the living circumstances of older urban residents. In addition to sharing civil society cases, it also invites heads of bureaus and departments and city councilors from two cities to further discuss the possibilities for focusing food and farming issues on the elderly population. Outside the venue, exhibition areas curated by the alliance's various organizations are also set up, and everyone is even more welcome to exchange!
