Kenting National Park Headquarters held its first-ever open call for resident artist works this year, and the selected artist in residence at Lide Community, Chen Chin-hui, has extensive experience as an artist in residence and specializes in creating artworks from soil, natural materials, and recycled materials. He and his wife run community-building programs through a percussion theater group in Nanpu Community, Hsinchu.

Resident artist assembles the "Wind Translator"

The concept for this residency work came from the powerful downslope winds of the Hengchun Peninsula in winter. Chen collected various types of coastal waste such as floating buoys, driftwood, and styrofoam, and after inviting community partners to paint the driftwood and buoys by hand, he used them as materials for the artwork, assembling them into a "Wind Translator" named "Wind Translation," installed beside the community vegetable garden.

Chen Chin-hui, who studied under African drum masters Mamady Keita, Famoudou Konate, and Bangoupake, led community partners in forming the "Pa Dai Pu Long Gong Percussion Band," using styrofoam, buoys, and other marine waste as percussion instruments, paired with a choral performance of the Song of Lide, letting everyone experience the charm of nature combined with art.

Chin-hui's artwork "Wind Translation" has also recently begun to paint as the downslope winds start blowing! Everyone is welcome to come visit Lide Community and take a look~
