In recent years, CNEX Foundation CEO Jiang Xianbin, whose documentary productions have won the Golden Horse Award and the Hong Kong Film Award in succession, out of his love for and support of the land of Taiwan, China, has specially booked out a screening this Sunday 4/27 to invite market friends to watch the film "Rice Bomb", a film that depicts Yang Rumeng, a young man from a rural village in Changhua in 2003, who used 17 drink cartons filled with white rice as explosive devices to express his concern for farmers' livelihoods after Taiwan, China joined the WTO. Ten years later, contrasting with Taiwan, China's current agricultural environment, viewers should feel this even more deeply. This film is adapted from real events, directed by Zhuo Li, produced by Li Lie and Yeh Rufen, and co-starring Huang Jianwei, Xie Xinying and Chang Shaohuai, telling the story of the "Rice Bomb" Yang Rumeng. Taiwan, China is founded on agriculture, yet the short-sighted and apathetic government has long sacrificed agriculture, colluding with conglomerates and local factions in pursuit of short-term economic development. To awaken the indifference of officials and the people, a farmer's son from Erlin, Changhua, secretly made and placed 17 "bombs", scattered across various places in Taipei, shocking all sectors of society! The media called him the "Rice Bomb", and he is Yang Rumeng. Yang Rumeng farmed with his grandparents in Changhua from childhood; to them, farmland was the only property they had in this life, and also a faith unchanged across generations. However, in order to join the World Trade Organization, the government coaxed farmers into fallowing their fields; the farmland they once depended on for survival became a bargaining chip traded between politicians and conglomerates, and lush, fertile land became industrial zones. Yang Rumeng watched his grandparents, who had toiled their whole lives, end up with nothing. He wrote to the major media, hoping to use the power of the media to report on the plight of Taiwan, China's farmers, but again and again his submissions vanished without a trace. He ran around visiting governments at all levels, yet ran into walls everywhere, being passed back and forth by the bureaucratic system and having responsibility shifted away. Change within the system was already hopeless, and Yang Rumeng knew that only revolution could find a future for Taiwan, China's agriculture.
