Diet is the best form of upbringing; every meal and every bite is education.

Once a senior reporter on the food and agriculture beats, she put down her pen and picked up a spatula to cook hearty soups for her child. On the afternoon of the first weekend in July, Hui-ling and her family will all turn out (the male protagonist in the book and the photographer will both appear in person) at Xiami to share with everyone the food and farming education in their family.

Hui-ling says: Taste preferences are shaped by a family's eating habits. I hope that Pidan (my son) can use food to understand the diverse cultures of this world. Food is not merely about whether it tastes good or whether you are full; it is also connected to the ecology of the land, cultural history, lifestyle and ideology. I like to roll tangyuan with him at the winter solstice, go back to Grandma's house to eat gua bao on the tail-of-the-year banquet, and of course the Lunar New Year's Eve reunion dinner cannot be without a New Year's Eve meal, which must be piping hot and bustling.

To me, food is a language, a way of telling stories, a way of grounding oneself in life. Through food, I connect with the land and the world.
