Defending Land Justice: The Farmers' Front Launches Local Actions in the Countryside

Dear friends:
After the battle over the bill before the Legislative Yuan recessed, and the public actions of farmers returning to Ketagalan Boulevard on 1212 and monitoring the amendment on 1213, the work of the Farmers' Alliance and the Taiwan Rural Front has entered the stage of "grassroots forums" and "local actions."
At present, self-rescue associations in various places continue to expand and hold briefing sessions in neighboring areas. Last Saturday (1224), Miaoli farmers and young people also held a civic march, and tonight (12/29) there will also be a march in the Erchongpu area of Hsinchu.
If your organization is also planning to hold a related forum (on food, land, water resources, agriculture), as long as there are 15 or more people, the Rural Front will be happy to arrange it for you. Please write to: Chen Ping-hsuan <[email protected]>.
On December 13 at the main entrance of the Legislative Yuan, Lawyer A-gui proposed placing an advertisement to publicly name the legislators not recommended by farmers, which drew an enthusiastic response from the farmers present. This matter was confirmed at the December 19 meeting of the Alliance Defending Rural Homelands, and the Land Justice Alliance was also invited to join in placing the advertisement.
The purpose of this advertisement is to put responsible politics into practice. We strongly demand that politicians must be held accountable for what they do. Placing the advertisement is also a form of self-reflection: our methods of communication have generally been used by age groups under 40 through the internet, but through media advertising, farmers' messages gain a foundation, so that friends at home and far away can all buy a newspaper and expand the discussion further.
Please, everyone, go buy a copy of Apple Daily today, the advertisement on page A10. Please support the farmers, expand opposition to land expropriation, and give proper attention to discussions of farmers' right to survival and Taiwan's food security.
A friend far away encouraged us like this:
"The work the Rural Front does must be viewed over twenty years, continuous, detailed, deepening the foundation of change."
Perhaps so, moving forward at a slow pace, slower, and thicker. Let's all keep it up ——Pei-hui
