The plum season coincides with Xiaoman, and its brief fruiting period passes in the blink of an eye.
[Note] "Satoyama Fresh Produce Cooperative" is a new experiment started in 2014 by the Satoyama School of the Guanshu Education Foundation, hoping to lead local fruit farmers in exploring environmentally friendly farming methods. Starting in 2015, it further invited several dedicated local farming friends to begin with grass cultivation and reducing the number of pesticide applications. Starting in 2016, the Satoyama School began keeping detailed records of this process, in which the farming friends faced the learning, conflicts, and struggles between farming philosophy and technological transition, hoping the public would see these farmers' efforts and give them support.
Three days before this year's Xiaoman, the rain would not stop. During these three days of rainfall, the "Satoyama School" took several families to visit the satoyama. With the early-summer "insect" ecology as our main theme, we led everyone into the orchard and used research methods such as transect surveys, discovering rich ecology at the Jiale Sightseeing Orchard; even on rainy days, the ecology of a grass-cultivated orchard remains rich. The target pest, the citrus longhorned beetle, indeed appeared as expected (Huh? Is that how you say it?). We also saw two other species of longhorned beetles,
Time flies, and very soon, three months later, the pomelos will be harvested, and the autumn fruit season will soon arrive. The "Satoyama Fresh Produce Cooperative" also needs to prepare to welcome the busy period about to begin in three months. These few days we must quickly find farming friends to hold a meeting! The high temperatures of midsummer make people lazy, but we have no time to be lazy!
