Tofu's fragrance fills the air in April, come to Satoyama Juku and enjoy some tofu
Recently, the phone at "Satoyama Juku" has been ringing frequently. After school started in March, many teachers from elementary and junior high schools, as well as parents concerned about their children's off-campus learning opportunities, began calling one after another to ask about joining activities at "Satoyama Juku." On top of that, this year "Satoyama Juku" once again applied for the Ministry of Education's off-campus teaching transportation subsidy program, which drew even more teachers wanting to learn about this subsidy. Of course, as more calls came in, the dates "Satoyama Juku" could offer for reservations and the available slots under the transportation subsidy program grew fewer and fewer, and we could only keep saying to the parents and teachers who called a step too late: "Sorry, sorry, our apologies!"
However, although the group inquiry calls have kept us busy, we have not forgotten the many parent-child families interested in "Satoyama Juku" activities. Each month we still continue to offer 1-2 sessions of activities for individual visitors to join! The April individual session activity [The Taste of Tofu] will take place on 4/2 (Sat)!
2016 is the International Year of Pulses, and the "The Taste of Tofu" activity is just the best opportunity to get to know the soybean (that is, yellow soybean or black soybean)! Did you know that the raw material for the soy milk, tofu and other soy products you eat every day comes mostly from imports? And how much of that is genetically modified soybean? And do genetically modified soybeans really affect human health and the environment? Is the pesticide tolerance value for genetically modified soybeans really higher? And what is the reason? Let us make tofu and eat tofu together, and also learn about the story of the soybean. Of course, we will also walk into the fields and search together for leguminous plants in nature, to see just what special abilities they have that let them hold a place in the natural world and in agriculture!
Children and adults alike are welcome to sign up for the 4/2 (Sat) "The Taste of Tofu." Please refer to the brochure link below, download the brochure to register, or register online directly.
