Agriculture, film, baseball, meeting in KANO: the video version is released

Following the film , the next new film , written and produced by Wei Te-sheng and directed by Ma Chih-hsiang, is about to start shooting in September this year. "KANO" is the abbreviation of "Taiwan Public Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry School" (the predecessor of National Chiayi University) in the 1930s, and the film tells the inspirational story of the once unknown Taiwan Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry baseball team fighting its way through the rounds, entering Japan's national secondary school championship baseball tournament "Koshien" and winning second place.

Although it tells of ethnic integration through baseball, behind is in fact a testament to the takeoff of Taiwan's agriculture. Wei Te-sheng said that in the year the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry baseball team went to Japan to compete, the Jianan Canal was also completed, effectively solving the long-standing problem of armed clashes over water in Taiwan's rural villages, and because of the Jianan Canal, agriculture on the Jianan Plain advanced by leaps and bounds, making it Taiwan's granary, and the agricultural elites it produced were the backbone of the Chiayi Agriculture and Forestry baseball team that made it into Japan's Koshien.

In addition, cinematographer Chiang Shen-feng, after hitting a home run in his career, as if having rounded first base, second base and third base and returned to home plate, went back to his hometown of Yuanli 10 years ago to farm. From being born into a farming family and going out into the world to shoot documentaries and films, to carrying both a camera and a hoe on his shoulders in the second half of his life, he returned home to live a "half farming, half film" life.

NewsMarket recently published a report on the dialogue between director Wei Te-sheng and cinematographer Chiang Shen-feng, and with the help of a group of volunteers, edited the video record of their conversation into three episodes, please watch.
