The organic radishes of the Piya External Tribe are in peak production season right now, but the recent cold weather has also caused a big increase in radish yields on the flatlands. Distributors are prioritizing flatland radishes, leaving the tribe's radishes facing a situation of unsold stock.

The Piya External Tribe in Fuxing Township, Taoyuan County, has earned recognition from all quarters for its dedication to the local community and industry, and was selected by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications as a settlement under the "Regional International Spotlight Project." In January of this year, the Piya External Tribe also won first prize in the community category of Sinyi Realty's "One Community, One Happy Action Plan."

Although the Piya External Tribe is a small Atayal tribe of only 15 households, their peaches, sweet persimmons, loquats, and high-mountain vegetables and other crops have long been grown without spraying pesticides, making this one of the tribe's distinguishing features.

Cold weather and snow mean there is no time to make dried radish either

"The radishes growing well should make us happy, but the weather has been really too cold lately. Radish yields have increased in both the mountains and the flatlands, and for the moment our radishes have piled up with no way out." said Lai Yuzhen, who assists with crop production and sales in the Piya External Tribe.

At present, the Piya External Tribe hopes to sell directly to consumers willing to group-buy at a farm-gate price of 35 yuan per catty. Farmer Ah-Chung · Nuobu and Elder Yuma said: "The organic radishes we have tended with care keep growing, and if we cannot sell them, they can only split open in the soil and rot.
