Hualien Dawang Vegetable Shop and Agroecology School: A Day in Liz's Life
Elizabeth Henderson, nicknamed Liz, a driving force behind CSA in the United States and author of Sharing the Harvest (Chinese edition: Grow Good Vegetables, Live a Good Life), came to Taiwan for the second time this October, making her first visit to the east coast. Elizabeth and her partner Jack's two-day itinerary in Hualien was arranged by Dawang Vegetable Shop, and I was glad to have the chance to help with translation and hosting.
Before arriving in Taiwan, Liz had gone to South Korea in late September for the IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements) international conference, and to Beijing for the third CSA symposium, so her Taiwan trip was also very rushed, circling the island in almost four days! So Dawang decided to arrange a relaxed, leisurely itinerary, to let Liz and Jack experience Hualien's "slow city" pace and the "good life of small villages and small farmers" that the vegetable shop wants to put into practice.
Breakfast on October 13 was fresh fruit from Dawang Vegetable Shop and bread baked in a bread oven. Liz could not stop praising it, saying it was the most delicious bread of this whole Asia trip!
