Taiwan Coffee Professionals Competition Returns Annually, Spotlighting the World's Happiest Growing Region

July 15 and 16 will mark the annual grand feast of Taiwan's coffee world. The Yuchi Township Office in Nantou County, famed for its black tea, is taking the lead in organizing the "Taiwan Coffee Top 12 + 1 Sun Moon Lake Invitational." It brings together outstanding professionals and diligent farmers from Taiwan's coffee industry, inviting 12 estates from 7 major growing regions spanning central Taiwan to southern Taiwan and eastern Taiwan, plus 1 local coffee estate in host township Yuchi, weaving together a coffee event brimming with aroma and lingering finish.

A Splendid Coffee Story, Unfolding in Taiwan

Fang Cheng-lun, a perennial champion of competitions, cares most about hoping that Taiwan's green beans can go abroad to compete and land a top-ten ranking. When that happens, international players will surely grow curious and want to buy them or investigate further, allowing Taiwan's beans to be exported abroad. "Of course we'll say Taiwan's beans are very few, so we can set up a bidding system like Panama's, letting the whole world bid, and with small volume and high quality the bidding price will only climb."

Now that Jamaica's Blue Mountain coffee has lost its former glory, and growing regions for specialty coffee worldwide have risen accordingly, plenty of international coffee buyers have set their sights on the tall coffee trees of Alishan amid the misty clouds, and then tasted its exquisitely delicate coffee flavor. Among them are those who want to negotiate to buy Alishan's coffee estates. Fang Cheng-lun revealed that UCC Coffee once wanted to buy Zou Zhu Yuan, "but I'm free now, so why work for someone else?"

In recent years, Taiwan has taken many world championships in the coffee field - whether in bean roasting, brewing or cupping, the results are remarkable. Fang Cheng-lun said, "Taiwan is Asia's most advanced country in coffee; from production to processing, it long ago left behind Japan, which doesn't grow coffee at all. If green beans can also achieve good results, then the whole dragon is complete, and Taiwan should count as the world's strongest country in coffee. If Taiwan coffee as a whole is also very good, then abroad people will say Taiwan coffee is very good, and making this industry bigger and progressing together is the best thing."
