The Revealing Story of Factories on Farmland in Changhua: A Summer Field Survey by a Grassroots School
Text / Shih Hsin University Graduate Institute of Social Development
Mazu blesses and protects, yet farmland pollution still comes?! The government says report it and it will be demolished immediately, but illegal farmland factories keep being built?! The road to the countryside, it is not a deer, where is it now? We invite you to explore together and to talk and interact with farmers.
Changhua has long been a major agricultural center, but at the same time it faces the pollution problem of factories misplaced on farmland. Of the 400 hectares of polluted farmland across Taiwan, Changhua accounts for 60 percent. Who should bear the consequences of the misplacement of primary and secondary industries?
Let us sort out the causes together, understand the current state of agriculture in Taiwan, the problem of farmland and factories being intermingled caused by national spatial planning, and, from the perspective of local youth, where is the future of farmland factories?
