To help market local agricultural specialties, the Kenting National Park Headquarters held a market for the first time on August 15 and 16 at the Dawan Visitor Center. With environmentally friendly practices, ecotourism, environmental protection, and community industry as its main themes, it brought together community tribes developing ecotourism, small farmers selling their own produce directly, and partners such as the Guang Market and Hand in Hand Market featuring handmade creative goods and secondhand items. At the same time, local Kenting artists were invited to hold the "Encounter. Symbiosis" exhibition, and there were also two consecutive days of independent band performances on site. It was named "Kenting e Market", with food, handmade goods, and music. The rich and diverse content was meant to let everyone discover a different side of Kenting.
Kenting, with its mountains and sea, has always been a very popular tourist area. Besides popular attractions such as the blue sea and sky, Hengchun Old Town, and Kenting Main Street, Kenting's rich and diverse culture is an even more unmissable reason to visit.
Liu Peidong, Director of the Kenting National Park Headquarters, said that "Kenting e Market" was specially held during the summer vacation peak tourism season at the Dawan Ecotourism Visitor Center. It gathered Kenting's ecotourism communities and local producers' agricultural products, and jointly worked with the Light of Love Culture and Education Promotion Association and the Hand in Hand Market to collect handmade creative goods and secondhand items from the Hengchun area and other counties and cities. With concepts such as green, ecology, and conservation as the main themes of the event, the hope was to let everyone see different aspects of Kenting.
Gloria Manor Kenting, a long-time supporter of ecotourism, also enthusiastically participated in the market event this time. Assistant Manager Zhong Juncai mentioned that Kenting's rich natural ecology and cultural charm have become an important reason why tourists love it. To help make this market event possible, in addition to supporting it through corporate donations, Gloria Manor also joined the market lineup through concrete action, demonstrating the beautiful belief of coexisting and living in symbiosis with the mountains and forests.
At this market event, Gloria Manor will sell environmentally friendly reusable water bottles and tote bags, and the hotel chef will handmade bread and pastries. All revenue from the two days will be donated in full to the Hengchun Family Assistance Center.
In addition to sales of community ecotourism, agricultural products, handmade goods, secondhand items, and cultural and creative products, Kenting e Market also features performances by local independent bands. The content includes the Gaoshi Tribe Ancient Ballad Singing Troupe led by New Formosa Band A VON, Summer, lead singer of Relax One Band, Grassland Star, the African drum team formed by the Holistic Indigenous Care Association, CK Alliance Rock Band, The Bollands, and the Hengchun Folk Song Promotion Association, with different performances taking turns on stage. The Fun Theater of living statue artists also includes street performances.
In addition, the market invited local Kenting artists Chen Changfan, Li Houliang, Cai Yiqi, and Qiu Jiahua, among others, to jointly hold the "Encounter. Symbiosis" exhibition with photography and painting works, using artistic creation to showcase the beauty of Kenting.
To implement the concept of ecological conservation, Kenting e Market will not provide plastic bags or single-use packaging bags, so friends attending should bring their own shopping bags; the music performance stage area was arranged by Teacher Dai Xiaojun using waste picked up from the seaside, hoping to make everyone reflect on the garbage problem.
This market, which brings together small farmers, communities, and handicraft products from the Kenting area and Pingtung, has food to eat, fun to enjoy, music to listen to, health, life, and culture. There are many people who love this land, using various ways to let everyone know that the connection between people and the land is, in fact, very simple. Friends who are interested are welcome to come to the Dawan Ecotourism Center on August 15 and 16 and join the lively fun at Kenting e Market!
