Introduction |
"What we want to do is bring producers and consumers together, so that producers protect consumers' lives, and consumers safeguard producers' livelihoods."
The Korean Hansalim cooperative was founded in 1986. It is a nonprofit organization jointly established around producers and consumers, hoping to build a sustainable production-consumption system through a direct urban-rural trade movement, while also actively engaging in various social advocacy actions to counter climate change, the threat of nuclear power, energy depletion, agricultural issues and other worsening social conditions. At present, there are nearly 600,000 members and 209 outlets across South Korea, offering in-store purchasing and online ordering with home delivery, with sales reaching 400 billion won.
Based on supporting food self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imported genetically modified soybean and corn feed, Hansalim promotes the use of Korean domestic barley feed to raise pigs, and is committed to expanding the cultivated area and variety of domestic crops and developing a seed bank system, striving to preserve local seeds.
In this lecture, we will invite CEO HyungGeun Yoon to share the current situation of the Hansalim cooperative and the course of its action to promote domestic barley-fed pigs.
