[You come, you come, you come]
2014 International Symposium on Biodiversity
Eco-cities Without Borders: Science, Policy and Local Governance
- Date: June 23 to 25, 2014
- Venue: Kaohsiung Lotus Pond International Conference Hall
- Organizers: ICLEI East Asia Kaohsiung Capacity Center for Environmental Sustainable Development, Environmental Protection Bureau, Kaohsiung City, ICLEI Cities Biodiversity Center
- (Simultaneous interpretation throughout)
The symposium has three main themes: 1. Adaptation of urban ecosystems under climate change; 2. Connections between cities, citizens and nature; 3. Sustainable ocean and wetland management. Besides indoor talks, there are also city visits (a guided tour of Zhongdu Wetland) and field survey trips; aside from discussing how biodiversity can be put into practice through communication among science, NGOs, social enterprises and government agencies, we will also take you to indigenous tribes to experience the ecological wisdom of hunters, and to see how biodiversity is put into practice in daily life!
In the indoor program, experts from the practical field in Canada, the United States, Belgium and South Africa in eco-city planning and wetland management will share their case studies; we have also invited groups such as the Ecological Engineering Development Foundation, Upwelling Ocean, New Rural Association, Friendly Earth, and the Pingtung County Timuru Cultural Industry and Arts Association to set up booths and share their stories about promoting biodiversity in ecological engineering, fisheries, agriculture and indigenous tribes!
