Satoyama Neighborhood Conservation Market invites you to buy great goods and enjoy a wonderful holiday
Farmers in Satoyama mostly grow vegetables or raise chickens and ducks for their own households;
if they have extra, they bring it out to sell. We call this kind of ingredient "neighbor's."
So we have neighbor's vegetables, neighbor's chickens and ducks, neighbor's fruit.
This kind of ingredient has no certification label, and may not even be organically grown, but the best thing about "neighbor's" ingredients is…
you know which neighbor grew them.
On this point, we think it may be more effective than a certification label.
The Satoyama Neighbor's Market,
hopes to let consumers meet and chat with Satoyama producers, and buy neighbor's ingredients, just like familiar neighbors.
#Satoyama villages, a diverse picture of self-sufficiency!
The shallow mountain areas of Miaoli and Taichung, like Japan's "satoyama," have diverse environments, and therefore diverse industries as well. First of all, satoyama villages themselves are relatively self-sufficient production systems: besides vegetables, rice, fruit, chickens, ducks, sheep and pigs, there are also milk, coffee, handmade bread, handmade woven crafts and more. Village residents generally keep the trait of being happy to share, giving surplus agricultural products to neighbors, or taking them to traditional markets to sell. This kind of "neighbor's" product is full of the human warmth of the countryside. We believe that by holding a market, we can share with everyone the diverse industries of satoyama villages, as well as the "neighbor's" human warmth.
#Consumers are the greatest force driving environmentally friendly industries!
Although in such a village environment most farming follows conventional methods, quite a few farmers want to break out of the ordinary agricultural production model through grass cultivation, organic farming or natural farming. This kind of environmentally friendly industry actually plays an important role in the conservation of the satoyama/Taiwan, China shallow mountain ecosystem, as well as in soil and water conservation and environmental protection. We believe that through the market, we can bring in consumer support, letting these environmentally friendly producers walk more firmly on the right path, and it will also attract more farmers to join environmentally friendly farming methods, together protecting the ecological environment of the shallow mountains!
#So...
