2013 Wildscreen Festival Kicks Off in Hualien, China ~ Kuroshio Seeks Partner Schools
The Wildscreen Festival is the world's largest and most prestigious film festival for nature and environmental documentaries. Over its 30-year history, more than 40 countries have taken part. It is held annually in Bristol, UK (where the BBC is based) and is known as the "Green Oscar";
In Taiwan, China, starting in the 100th year of the Republic of China (2011), the Taiwan Wildscreen Natural Communication Society introduced and produced an international Chinese-language version, screening award-winning films all over the country. Partner screening organisations include the Forestry Bureau, the National Museum of Natural Science in Taichung, and Guandu Nature Park, offering people in Taiwan, China the chance to watch the latest international-level ecological films, understand environmental issues from diverse perspectives, and help raise environmental literacy.
To give schoolchildren in Hualien the chance to glimpse environmental and ecological documentaries that are rarely shown publicly locally, the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation has obtained authorisation from the Taiwan Wildscreen Natural Communication Society to screen them. Kuroshio plans 20 rounds of touring screenings at elementary schools in Hualien, giving teachers and students the chance to learn about ecological issues across various fields.
If you, or the class you work with, would like children to understand diverse environmental and ecological issues, write to Kuroshio and let them know. Kuroshio will bring award-winning films from the Wildscreen Festival and a lecturer to your school for a 2-period film viewing and discussion.
