The mango tree has been with me for 5 years, grown using the Hideaki Natural Farming method.
At the lowest point of my life, in a state of complete financial hardship, I took over my first orchard: 1 jia 2 fen of land, a hundred or two mango trees, 9 old lychee trees, and a few wenzhou mandarins (liu ding).
When I was growing leafy vegetables, I once used EM bacteria, but later I realized this was not the farming method I wanted. So from the moment I took over this orchard, I knew that Xioming natural farming, with no pest control and no fertilizer, was the way I wanted to work.
This orchard was overrun with weeds and scrub, the mango trees growing wild, just like my state of mind at the time. But looking at them, I knew that one day we would together let others know that we could grow very well without any control materials and without fertilizer. Holding this belief, I picked up the saw, picked up the electric saw, and pruned away the leggy branches one tree at a time.
In the first year, the trees produced 75 mangoes. It didn't matter, we kept going. The income couldn't support life. It didn't matter, there were other ways. I shouldered the electric saw to cut trees for others, carried the brush cutter to clear grass for others, to help make ends meet, waiting for that day to come, believing in the power of the earth.
Through last year, production had never broken past 1000 jin, but this year it leaped to 10000 jin. Every farmer who treats the land with kindness waits for this moment to arrive: under a commitment to natural farming with no fertilizer and no spraying of any control materials, seeing the life force. After waiting 5 years, my large mango orchard finally produced abundantly.
