According to the national standard (CNS11172), so-called "pure rice vermicelli" is made with rice as its raw material, and its crude protein must be 5.0% or above; "blended rice vermicelli" must have 50% or more rice as its main raw material, and its crude protein must be 2.5% or above. However, between December 29 of last year and January 14 of this year, NewsMarket purchased 52 branded packaged rice vermicelli products and sent them to the "China Grain Products Research and Development Institute" for testing. Of these, 45 had rice content below the CNS-specified lower limit of 50% and did not qualify to be called "rice" vermicelli. Among them, as many as 39 had a rice content of less than 20%, all padded out with cheap corn starch.

In addition, 9 rice vermicelli products met the CNS11172 rice content standard on their outer packaging labels, but in actual testing the results were far below the standard value, giving rise to serious suspicion of deceiving consumers.

Of these 52 products, a total of 5 products complied with government regulatory labeling. They are listed below to provide reference for all sectors. ( For the list of non-compliant products, click here)
