Osaka Kitashiba Community Kitchen Candy House provides professional services
The Kitashiba community in Minoh, just 30 minutes from central Osaka, is a 200-household neighborhood that once faced discriminatory treatment because of historical factors. Some residents were even reluctant to reveal where they lived, but after the long-term efforts of the local community organization "Living Development Network Kitashiba, the area became a warm housing complex with a community-run candy store, an elderly cafeteria and a coffee shop, as well as a cafeteria that uses organic vegetables; residents interact frequently and the place is full of children's laughter.
The Living Development Network Kitashiba, which created this miracle, is also a social enterprise capable of supporting 40 employees. Its professionalism in community services is such that even the government hopes to entrust it with elderly services and other publicly run community work.
Recently, Kitashiba Living Network secretary-general Ikeya Keisuke was invited by the Eden Social Welfare Foundation to speak in Taiwan, sharing how to gather community opinions, meet community needs, raise funds, open up different community services, and carry out community building in the form of a social enterprise.
