The government is asked to play the role of a parasitic beast that coexists mutually with the land and waterways.
Because of the land needed for the fourth phase of the Central Taiwan Science Park, in 2009 the government forcibly expropriated the land of the century-old settlement of Xiangsihliao, and since last year, because of water-use problems, the government has planned to bury about 24 km of water pipeline at the source of the Cihzihpi Canal to divert agricultural water for use by the park, yet this could affect more than 18,000 hectares of farmland along the canal.
On June 2, the Guardians of the Canal group held the "Listen to the Canal, Support the Farmers - Don't Let the Canal Weep" concert in Xizhou, and the Taiwan Native Culture Bookstore and the Taiwan Professors Association also jointly held the "That Side ~ Canal Pilgrimage" event. The event was led by Zheng Huimin of the Taiwan Native Culture Bookstore, with Professor Zhou Yizhong of National Changhua University of Education representing, and commentary by Chen Jiayan, webmaster of the Heretic history website.

This event was organized by the Taiwan Native Culture Bookstore as "That Side ~ Canal Pilgrimage + Guardians of the Canal Concert", with thanks to the Taiwan Professors Association for sponsorship
