New Taipei Heat Island Effect Mitigation Strategy Roundtable Forum Held in 2017

The rapid urban development of New Taipei City has brought with it high land-use density, scarce and fragmented urban green space, carbon emissions from transportation, the use of impervious paving, and waste heat from air-conditioning units in every household, all of which have made the heat island effect increasingly severe. To promote urban heat island cooling strategies and advance energy-saving and carbon-reduction policies for the living environment, the Urban and Rural Development Department of the New Taipei City Government held the "2017 New Taipei City Heat Island Effect Mitigation Strategy Roundtable Forum" on Thursday, June 29, 2017 (ROC year 106). Through this forum, the results of New Taipei City's heat island survey and research were reported, and domestic and international experts and scholars were invited to attend, discussing urban heat island improvement strategies from three perspectives: urban climate maps, urban wind corridors, and urban design. The aim was to strengthen the awareness of urban heat island cooling among urban environmental planning professionals, public sector policy implementers, and various civil organizations and groups, thereby enhancing the quality of New Taipei City's urban living environment and achieving the goal of sustainable urban development. In addition, through discussion of related topics, insights were fed back into New Taipei City's heat island issues, achieving the dual benefits of concept promotion and experience exchange.
