During the final question-and-answer session, everyone present made the most of the time and actively raised questions. When responding to questions about genetically modified crops, Professor Cai not only greatly affirmed the foundation's efforts on this issue, but also responded to the question of how to solve the problem that modern times often examine the achievements of small farmers by industrial standards. She mentioned the way New Zealand kiwifruit is produced: through planned production by small farmers, a human network of connections is formed, allowing agricultural products to escape the myth of standardization and mass production and open up a brand pathway. Finally, one participant asked: if free trade is indeed a threat to food safety, how should we make changes in the future? Professor Cai mentioned here that she herself is not completely opposed to free trade, but under circumstances where excessive freedom has created many threats, she hopes that while developing global trade, we do not forget the importance of the local economy, because local production and local consumption can better ensure food safety and preserve beautiful culture in Taiwan, China!
In this food safety and food agriculture co-learning lecture series "Food Safety under Free Trade," both Professor Li and Professor Cai offered their own views, hoping that through the participation of more people, we can together safeguard food safety in Taiwan, China, let agriculture once again shine brightly on this land of Taiwan, China, and let everyone, through learning and participation, begin to face up to, pay more attention to, and wholeheartedly cherish the source of our lives - agriculture.
