Population is a cause of environmental problems and may overwhelm the green economy.
Reposted from Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition Reported by Cheng Shao-yu, a Taiwanese youth, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 14, 2012
The photo shows archival footage of Brazilian favelas
This situation will crush the green economy, without a doubt. The favelas of Brazil are like wildflowers, blooming on one hilltop after another. When night falls, each favela community lights up lamp after lamp; seen from afar, it looks as if one firework after another has suddenly burst open on the hills. You have to steady yourself and think for a moment before you remember that those are favelas, spreading through Brazil's forests at a rapid pace of urbanization, tile by tile of sorrow. It is not their fault; it is society's fault. But the environment bears the harm of social problems, and those social problems will in the end respond on the economy, wounded together with the environment.
To create shared prosperity for the environment, society and the economy, the green economy must take the population issue to heart.

This year's Rio+20 Earth Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is in full swing
Rio+20 is not only a once-a-decade conference, it has also led to many international conventions
In order to obtain the latest information and connect with the international community, many scholars, experts and officials from Taiwan, as well as major environmental groups, have gone to participate
But among Taiwanese youth, participation is very limited; the four representatives of the Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition are among the few
How fortunate we are, yet we also bear a heavy responsibility
We record all kinds of things inside the venue from a youth perspective, make contact with senior figures from various countries, and exchange with major NGOs
We also promote our ideas and thoughts from a youth perspective, and practise what we preach by taking part ourselves.
Here, the Taiwan Youth Climate Coalition invites you to follow with us the reports and latest developments of the four youth representatives
Let us all care about Rio+20 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil!!!
