Vegetarian sausages, vegetarian fish nuggets - there are hundreds of varieties of vegetarian mock-meat products on the market, but how many of them are made with genetically modified soybeans? The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today (the 3rd) announced the results of July inspections, finding that 5 vegetarian products sold by Ruxiang Company contained genetically modified ingredients exceeding 5% of total weight, yet were not honestly labeled. The FDA stated that under the law violators can be fined 4 to 4 million yuan, and urged businesses not to test the law with their own risk.

The FDA today (the 3rd) announced that 5 vegetarian products produced by Ruxiang Company - black pepper mini sausages, roasted cod, salted fish, Spanish mackerel slices, chicken nuggets, and grilled eel - used genetically modified soybean ingredients exceeding 5% of total weight.

However, under the "Matters Concerning the Labeling of Foods Made with Genetically Modified Soybeans and Genetically Modified Corn as Raw Materials" regulations, as long as GM soybeans or corn are used as raw materials exceeding 5% of total weight, they must be labeled with the words "genetically modified" or "contains genetically modified."

During the June FDA inspection, it was also found that Yuanlin Hecheng Vegetarian Material Store's "vegetarian liver" product also had false labeling.

Li Wanzhen, head of the FDA's Food and Nutrition Division, stated that under the "Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation," businesses with false labeling can be fined 4 to 4 million yuan, and urged businesses to comply with relevant regulations and implement self-management.
