Overview of Shuangliu Nature Education Center's Themed Activity Details
Natural is best~~~
Come and get to know the soapberry
Did you know
that long, long ago, when people still had to go to the river to wash clothes
Grandpa and Grandma would always take soapberries along
Why take soapberries to wash clothes?
And what exactly is a soapberry?
The soapberry is the fruit picked from the soapberry tree
and it was also a commonly used cleanser in the past
because its fruit rind contains natural saponin
which forms foam when rubbed with water
People in the old days would take that foam to wash dishes and clothes
and they would also use it to wash their hair and body
But the soapberry actually has other uses in Buddhism
Its seeds, round and glossy black, can be made into prayer beads
and the wooden rods made from its branches can be used to ward off evil
which is how it got the name "wu huan" (without misfortune)
Would you like to learn more about the soapberry's little facts?
Would you like to know whether soapberry seeds can be made into hanging ornaments as well as prayer beads?
