Guantian Green Nutritious Lunch Workshop Series Report 2: Public-Private Collaboration
[Children's nutritious lunches are a shared effort that both the government and parents must make]
On 9/2, the workshop [Public-Private Collaboration: Guantian Green Nutritious Lunch Workshop], jointly run by the Southern Food and Farming Education Alliance (abbreviated as Nan Shi Meng) and the Tainan City Government, was also the first time that Mengjia and Zhengxu of the Kaohsiung First Community University co-hosted together, with about 60 participants including people from public agencies, community development associations, farmers, community universities, and environmental workers. In principle, we planned that each table must have members from the administrative side, the educational side, the consumer side, and the supply side (production side). Therefore, each table had about 8 people including a table leader and a little angel, divided into 6 groups, with about 8-10 observers among them.
In the workshop, we invited the partners present and attending to first focus on the three issues they felt were difficult to implement in understanding and promoting green nutritious lunches, and then everyone voted together. The top three in order of votes were [reasonable price, cooking method, and stable ingredients].
Among them, in the group hosted by Principal Lin Baoliang of Guantian Elementary School, the partners reached a consensus to address the problem of [Tainan City's nutritious lunch price being too low]. They mentioned that the current Tainan City junior high school nutritious lunch fee is 38 yuan, but personnel costs already include 10 yuan, which means the money for buying vegetables is only 28 yuan. What does this figure make everyone realize? Nowadays, if general vegetable prices are stable, three bundles of vegetables cost about 50-60 yuan, right!? With 28 yuan, what kind of nutritious lunch with three dishes and one soup can our children eat? As for the ingredient quality, everyone can well imagine the situation. The lunch lady present also said that she could not possibly purchase these ingredients to feed her own children.
