Seasonal Fruit and Vegetable Food Truck Mercado: Corner Green Grocer 2, Delivered Direct from Producers
Few people know that around JR Sendagaya Station, it quietly became a gathering place for food trucks at some point. Unlike Taiwan, which has many roadside stalls, dining-out options in Japan are limited to restaurants, takeout, and convenience stores, but office workers in Sendagaya have another option: at noon, they buy lunch from food trucks in different parking lots or vacant lots. Japanese food, Western food, Thai cuisine, Korean cuisine, omurice, Okinawan cuisine... food trucks selling different cuisines take turns appearing from Monday to Friday.
On some days, you would always see a pale yellow food truck with fresh fruits and vegetables arranged in front: seasonal daikon radish, turnip, spinach, mandarin oranges, as well as eggs, rice, miso, and seasonings lined up in a row. "Welcome! Lotus root is in season right now, how about a lotus root stuffed with meat bento? All our vegetables are from our own shop!" This is the bento food truck that the organic vegetable shop Mercado began trying three years ago. The rice and vegetables all come from the shop, pesticide-free and organically grown, and it is extremely popular among office-working women.
