The farming experience of Fangliao must be recorded and passed down.

I really like Jinxing.

This sentence, almost like a confession to a sweetheart, is exactly how I truly feel about Jinxing, if... I could describe the feeling Jinxing gives me in only one sentence.

This little community, formerly named Fangliao, whose Taiwanese transliteration refers to the place of the liao-board workers, and the clusters of giant trees in the early Shanlin area confirm the truth that Fangliao in the past had logging and plank-making as its main industries. In that time and space, a settlement gradually formed from the liao-board workers' huts. Even though we have been traveling through the Morakot disaster area for years, it was only during this period that we truly walked into and came to know this Pingpu settlement, which is also part of the Morakot disaster area. The first impression it gave me was: so deliciously good.

On the several occasions I visited Jinxing, I rarely heard the people I interviewed talk about the typhoon disaster. Most of them talked about how life used to be, whose family made the best red tortoise cakes, and how to cook grass jelly to make it taste best. The conversations were usually accompanied by loud laughter, that bold kind of laughter that comes straight from the belly and the heart.

By chance, I came to know Jinxing all over again together with the elders of Jinxing, and only then did I deeply understand why this community gave me the first impression of "so deliciously good."
