Home Healthcare in Japan 02: Miyanomori Cafe Guards the Mental Health of Caregivers
A person needs support on many different fronts, from birth to death. If the "Monogatari Clinic" ensures the physical health and end-of-life quality of the residents of Tonami City
Everyone has, to a greater or lesser degree, hardships that are hard to tell others about. Sometimes even with family, or rather, precisely because they are family, it becomes even harder to speak up. Suspecting that a child has developmental delays yet hesitating again and again to seek professional help, being so overwhelmed by the pressure of caring for an elderly family member that you can hardly breathe, not fitting in at school yet not knowing where else to go besides hiding at home, always feeling out of place no matter where you are...
"If only there were someone who could listen to me," "I really wish there were a place that would accept me as I am" - many people must have had thoughts like these flash through their minds. "Miyanomori Cafe (のカフェ)" in Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture, is a community cafe where people can talk and converse without any reservations, share their worries, and thereby find channels to solutions.
