Two products from Datong Tea House, "Specially Selected Green Tea" and "Specially Selected Black Tea," were found by the Taichung City Government Health Bureau yesterday (24th) to have fipronil pesticide residues of 0.008ppm and 0.005ppm respectively, both failing to meet the requirement of being below 0.002ppm. Health Bureau personnel went to the site overnight last night to seal the relevant tea leaves, totaling 115.2 kg.

The city government Health Bureau stated that Datong Tea House is a tea supplier for Yingguolan Company. When the bureau investigated Yingguolan Company's tea products on April 21, it found that Yingguolan Company's own testing of "Specially Selected Green Tea" had not detected pesticides, and that "Specially Selected Black Tea" was sold in large quantities to breakfast shops, so it particularly strengthened sampling and testing of these two products.

Last night the test results came out, and the Health Bureau detected fipronil pesticide residues in the Specially Selected Green Tea and Specially Selected Black Tea at 0.008ppm and 0.005ppm respectively, both failing to meet the regulations, so the bureau went to the site overnight to seal 68.4 kg of Specially Selected Green Tea and 46.8 kg of Specially Selected Black Tea, totaling 115.2 kg of sealed tea leaves.

The city government Health Bureau continued its investigation and found that Datong Tea House's Specially Selected Green Tea was purchased from Taoyuan Yadong Tea Factory and Kaohsiung Guixiong International Co., Ltd., then mixed and repackaged by itself at an 8:2 ratio and sold customized to Yingguolan Company. Currently this product has been fully removed from shelves.

The Health Bureau stated that the Specially Selected Black Tea was also purchased from Taoyuan Yadong Tea Factory, and the downstream companies Dadun Food Co., Ltd., Juese Fashion Creative Catering, and Juese Taigu Catering, all 3 businesses are operators in Taichung City. Today (25th), the Health Bureau dispatched personnel to Dadun Food Co., Ltd. in the East District, sealed 1.8 kg on site, and has notified 10 downstream operators in Taichung and 1 in Changhua, 11 in total, to remove the product from shelves and recall it. Currently the Health Bureau has recovered 18 kg, and expects to complete the recall within one week.

In addition, Juese Fashion Creative Catering in Shalu District told the Health Bureau that it had already switched to other brands of Earl Grey flavored tea on March 25, and Juese Taigu Catering was temporarily closed for renovation on March 16 and reopened on April 20, and does not offer Datong Tea House's Specially Selected Black Tea on site.
