The Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare this afternoon announced the results of inspections by city and county health bureaus into the distribution of inferior "Quantong Fragrant Lard" produced by Chang Guann Company. Among the 235 raw material suppliers and food processing plants that received the inferior oil, it has been confirmed that 110 processed food products made by 40 businesses have been affected, with Chi Mei Foods accounting for the most at 20 items and Wei Chuan Foods at 12 items.
In addition, about 69 metric tons of "Hejiang Fragrant Lard" produced by Chang Guann Enterprise on an OEM basis for "Industrial Technology Integrated Marketing Company" also flowed to about 473 food and beverage and snack businesses across the country. Feng Runlan, director of the FDA's Northern Region Management Center, said that following the first wave of inspections into the end uses and final products of "Quantong Fragrant Lard" that flowed to 235 raw material suppliers and food processing plants, the second wave will target inspections of the 473 food and beverage and snack businesses that received Hejiang Fragrant Lard.
Feng Runlan said that according to Chang Guann Company, this batch of inferior "Quantong Fragrant Lard" was mainly produced and supplied between March and August of this year, so she urged consumers not to buy any of the 110 processed food products if they see a manufacturing date between March 1 and August 31; retailers should also remove these products from shelves and manage them on their own, otherwise they will be fined under the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation.
