The Food and Drug Administration announced that the March 15 notice on the residue tolerance for fluopyram in tea is temporarily put on hold.

In response to recent controversy arising from the notice of the pesticide residue tolerance standards, the Executive Yuan Office of Food Safety, the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine of the Council of Agriculture, and the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare specially convened a meeting this afternoon (the 24th) with relevant experts and scholars in the fields of toxicology, toxicology, plant pathology, food science and medicine to deliberate on the scientific basis and review procedures involved in this case.

After reviewing the data on fluopyram in tea, including its toxicology, residue trials and residue standard assessment, the expert meeting held that the approval of fluopyram for use on tea plants conforms to domestic regulations and international principles for pesticide registration, and that the establishment of its residue tolerance conforms to the principles for setting international standards.

However, given the views recently expressed from all sides, and in order to value public opinion, strengthen communication and reduce unnecessary misunderstanding, the Food and Drug Administration's March 15 notice on the residue tolerance for fluopyram in tea is temporarily put on hold.
