Can growing Hami melons also be a startup? Brother Huang's organic transition path

At the tea table at the Doujiang Incubation Center, you can meet many different people.

One key point of chatting in southern Taiwan is that you have to brew tea. Brewing tea and chatting, you can casually bring up all sorts of interesting things.

One day, following the school's organic professor, in walked a deeply tanned older brother. Sipping hot tea and chatting and chatting, Brother Huang started talking about the cantaloupes he grows. The cantaloupes he grows were in their second year of the organic transition period. Since we had always been very interested in farming and cultivation, we started asking about organic transition and organic agriculture.

The so-called organic transition period

Organic is not only about the growing process being organic; the soil also has to be organic. Therefore, before obtaining organic certification, there needs to be a farmland transition period, during which the growing methods must fully follow organic cultivation methods. For example, short-term hydroponic crops have a two-year transition period, while long-term crops such as perennial fruit trees and tea trees require three years. Crops harvested during the transition period are labeled with a transition crop mark.

Uncle Train Organic Farm

Uncle Train Organic Farm is the name Brother Huang gave his own organic farm, so if you are willing, you can also call him Uncle Train (though he is actually still quite young).

The cantaloupes Brother Huang grows at Uncle Train Organic Farm have already gone through two years of the organic transition period. After several seasons of hard adjustments, this year's cantaloupes are heavy and sweet. Even though he is clearly already using a completely organic growing method, because the land needs a three-year transition, when facing us, Brother Huang still said very directly: "These are cantaloupes from the transition period. There is one more year, and then they will be truly organic."

The cantaloupes from the neighboring field using ordinary conventional farming are sold directly to a department store, and the final selling price is 3,000 yuan.
To grow organic, you have to be able to sell it, so that more farming friends will respond and be willing to try growing it; otherwise there will never be any way to change the larger environment.
