A Thousand People Gather in the Edamame Fields for the Harvest, Adults and Children Alike Enjoy the Bounty
When the first batch of edamame was harvested in April this year, the Qishan and Meinong area held its first "Edamame Festival", letting people experience the edamame harvesting process. More than 300 people took part at the time. Yesterday (11/23), the second batch of edamame was harvested, and the second edamame harvesting experience was held at Baixian Farm in Guangfu Village, Qishan District. Nearly 1,500 people poured in, almost all of them adults bringing children, and the edamame field instantly became a small natural playground. Many people on site said they had seen the news online and just rushed over. Mr. Tsai's family, who came all the way from Guiren, Tainan, even brought Grandma. Grandma said, "Next year we need to come earlier. Today's event said it starts at 1:30, but actually people were already lining up in the morning." She did not forget to turn around and say, "We're going home, the rest is for you to pick up."
Besides the edamame-picking activity, there was also parent-child DIY edamame making, using clay and paste to make edamame models. While eating edamame, you could also make them by hand, then take them home to admire slowly; no refrigeration needed. Baixian Farm owner Mr. Hou Zhaobai and the staff were busy making soy milk for everyone to sample. He said, "Our edamame has a production and sales traceability certificate, and the quality is far better than the genetically modified soybeans sold on the market." Sure enough, the line of people waiting for a sample was very long. Besides traditional soybeans, there is also a new edamame variety bred from seeds obtained from Japan and crossed with Taiwan varieties - chadou (Kaohsiung No. 11, Xiangmi). When made into soy milk, it has a slight taro aroma. With no sugar added, the original flavor is even better!
