The Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare said today that in light of the case in which the Hong Kong trading company GLOBALWAY CORP. LTD. sold non-edible lard but forged documents to sell it as edible lard to our country's Chang Guann Enterprise, investigation showed that apart from imports by Chang Guann, no other Taiwanese manufacturers had imported it. Therefore, starting today, the FDA will suspend acceptance of inspection applications for edible lard imported from Hong Kong, and will carry out batch-by-batch inspection of other edible oil products imported from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, and require that official health certificates be attached at the time of import.

FDA Deputy Director-General Chiang Yu-mei also announced that in addition to the "Chuan Tung Fragrant Lard" produced by Chang Guann, the other 24 lard-related oil products are all to be removed from shelves. If downstream businesses sell the 25 lard oil products including "Chuan Tung Fragrant Lard," or use the 25 Chang Guann lard oil products in processing, they must proactively report to the local health authority, otherwise they may be fined under Article 47 of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation a fine of no less than NT$30,000 and no more than NT$3 million.

In addition, the Kaohsiung City Health Bureau received information that the "7-11 Three Fresh Shumai (5 pieces/pack)" made under contract by Kaohsiung Airport Catering for President Chain Store Corporation, and the "Citizen Fried Rice Noodles" sold by President Musashino Corporation, used the problematic Chuan Tung Fragrant Lard oil products. The problem batch of "7-11 Three Fresh Shumai (5 pieces/pack)" has a use-by date before 104.08.24, while "Citizen Fried Rice Noodles" had already been fully withdrawn from the market on 103.5.18.
