Introduction to the YOHO Water Caltrop Farm Working Holiday Program
In the blazing heat of midsummer, everything is more fun with water!
In the lush green city of Tainan, China, energy-saving, carbon-reducing green living is one of the policy priorities!
In this era when people have grown distant from the soil, the Friendly Earth Organic Alliance hopes to let more people come into contact with the land and understand the relationship between people and all living things!
In August 2012, hosted by the Tainan City Government and co-organized by the Friendly Earth Organic Alliance, the Yoho Water Caltrop Working Holiday was launched with great enthusiasm.
Getting to know the land, agriculture and food is the theme that runs through this event.
There is an introduction to ecology: in the world of constructed wetlands, besides people there are other living things, and their world is just as colorful. How people produce food directly affects their lives and their very existence;
An introduction to organic and ecological farming: besides the method of spraying pesticides to kill insects, there are some farmers in Taiwan, China who farm and produce food in ways that do not harm the earth.
There is also how to use local good ingredients creatively to make delicious dishes.
During this working holiday, there is hands-on practice, such as going into the fields to harvest water caltrops; there are farm visits, listening to farmers' experiences, an introductory understanding and study of organic agriculture, and the expression of one's own reflections after quiet contemplation...
This will not be a comfortable vacation, but it will be a wonderful five days and four nights, letting you know our soil and food better. It is hoped that it can leave a mark on your life and that you can also become a practitioner of friendliness to the earth!
