2015 World Food Day Themed Event: Good Food, Good Grains Garden Party
2015World Food Day Themed Event - "Good Food, Good Grains Garden Party" Press Conference

In response to World Food Day on October 10 (World Food Day), the Homemakers United Foundation will hold the "Good Food, Good Grains Garden Party" from 11 a.m. to 17 p.m. on October 17 (Saturday) at the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market near Gongguan (1 Siyuan Street, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City), and will hold a press conference at 11 a.m., calling on the public to build a green food lifestyle circle through daily green eating practices and to safeguard their own food sovereignty.
With Taiwan facing an unending domestic food safety crisis and endless disputes over farmland being used for farming, while externally facing pressure to join the TPP and open up to imported foreign food, how can the public's food sovereignty and food safety be possible? Whether producers or consumers, we all hope that through this event, the whole family, adults and children alike, will come together to focus on food issues, reflect on the current situation, and seek solutions.
A one-day garden party program is the best educational activity for building a sustainable and healthy life for the next generation. That day, in addition to linking up with the Water Garden Organic Farmers' Market and inviting ecologically friendly small farmers and young food and agriculture teams to jointly form the "Good Food Market," the foundation has also very rarely invited the newly completed "Xiyuan Zaliang Learning Hall Educational Truck - Jonathan Mobile Unit" north from Changhua. The "Jonathan Mobile Unit" is equipped with its own photovoltaic panels to generate electricity, and on site it will use solar power to supply a blender, using locally grown wheat milled into flour to make noodles, letting urban residents witness with their own eyes the combination of green self-generated energy and the revival of local coarse grains; an innovative low-carbon and healthy life is right here.
In addition, the "Good Food Cinema" will screen five food-related documentaries, conveying more stories of environmentally friendly agricultural production through images, among them "The Wish of Sea Rice," which is the predecessor of the domestic film "The Sun's Children."
Most importantly, for children's food and agriculture education, the site specially features green food education interactive booths, including "Veggie Stack-Up" to learn about imperfect produce, "Non-GMO Decoded" to teach you how to distinguish GM foods, and "Food and Water Vision" to understand water and food, among other fun interactive booths for the public to join and enjoy, and visitors can collect stamps to redeem the "Eco-Enzyme Cleaning Kit." In addition, there are also activities such as "Fun Green Picture Books for Food," "Imperfect Produce Good Intentions DIY Honest Cooking," and "Water Terraces and Aquatic Plants to Your Home – Aquatic Plant Potted DIY." With all kinds of hands-on and experiential activities, the whole family, young and old, is sure to find the "good food, good grains" approach that suits them best here.
