The youngest farmers on average in all of Taiwan, China - Yilan County WISH Star Farmers - local young farmers - "Part 1"
Huang Jiajin
My family farms; counting back, I am the fourth generation. Since I was little I rolled around in the fields with my father, learning at his side. Actually, the reason I rolled around in the fields as a child was mainly my fondness for farm machinery. I found operating farm machinery really fun.
Before coming back to farm, I worked as a design and drafting engineer at a shipbuilding company. Because of the financial crisis, I was laid off in the early 100th year of the Republic of China (2011). After thinking it over many times, I decided to start farming together with my father.
In view of the food safety problems with rice on the market (pesticides, heavy metals), I hoped to let everyone eat rice with peace of mind, so at the end of that same year I planned to grow nontoxic rice, produce and sell it myself, and created my own brand. At the same time, in the 101st year of the Republic of China (2012) I joined the Wujie Organic Rice Production and Marketing Group, Group Four, and began growing organic rice.
The origin of Nongxin Rice
This is what rice grown with a farmer's care is called.
Even now, farmers still cannot avoid the heartlessness of heaven. You plant with care, and just as it looks like there will be a harvest, heaven's expression changes and the harvest may be partly lost. Nongxin Rice was named under exactly this way of thinking.”Who knows that each bowl of rice on the plate, every single grain is hard work?” Every day we eat fragrant rice, and every grain is cultivated through farmers' bitter toil, and so 'for every bowl of gruel and every bowl of rice, one should remember that its origin is not easy.'
Young people strive to reform and renew agriculture, with less and less land left fallow and farmhouses being destroyed, all just to preserve Taiwan's agricultural pure land, cultural environment, and healthy food. We young farmers alone are not enough. We need the support of everyone in Taiwan, so that young people can make agricultural land sustainable and pass on culture. Taiwan's agriculture and culture need Taiwanese people to protect them themselves. We also ask everyone who is Taiwanese to immediately take action: repost articles, visit farms for experiences, and support the purchase of young farmers' agricultural products. For us young farmers, and for Taiwan, this has great power for sustainability
No matter what method you use to support us, we are extremely grateful. Your support is the greatest force pushing us forward.
